I’m a “claims advocate” and extensive property casualty knowledge (Property, Liability, Marine, etc.) and deal with losses around the globe.  B ut as a Canadian I know fuck all about health or WC insurance.

That sucks. One of my good buddies is a claim agent with a major insurance company. It has made him into someone who doesn’t like cars anymore. He used to be a huge enthusiasts, but now it has sucked the joy out of cars for him. :(

I work insurance, too. The most diplomatic thing I can say is that I hate clients and the industry. So much needs to change from an industry standpoint, but so much more also needs to be done in terms of education of insurance basics to clients.

I totally get people’s frustration in regards to insurance pricing, but I will immediately point the finger back at despicable, greasy fucks of claimants who will go out of their way to make shit up and gouge the system for as much as possible. All it does is hurt good drivers who have never had an accident (like myself) yet still see rates increase over time. That’s only part of the issue as well - there’s also contractors, clinics, etc. that hear “insurance” and then charge greasy fuck prices as well.

I guess my feelings aren’t insurance specific - I hate people in general.

Hm. Approximate value of the damage ? Have you had it appraised/estimated?

Do you have coverage on the truck that would respond? I’m a strong advocate of going through your own coverage first and letting them subrogate .

I work in a brokerage (one of the big 3, WTW, Aon and Marsh) in the claims department.

Luckily I don’t do auto or personal lines much. Only high net worth individuals and the odd non-owned or extremely large auto claim (multiple deaths or something)

Backstory: i work for a very large wholesale car company. The truck in question was being transported to my HQ and the transporters truck was too small, knocked the antenna clean off. He was going to just cut us a check but then he went to his insurance. Rough guess is $800 worth of damages. Currently in limbo of him just cutting us a check or his insurance cutting us one.

Ah. Can you not just pressure his company by not doing any work with them until it’s repaid?

Small amounts suck. Often below the deductible of the insurance coverage and to small to sue for. You have to basically put serious pressure on this guy and possibly eat the $800.00

His insurance company has to up the claim to their cargo division, which takes a few days...which I don’t have. Trying to just have him cut us a check, then when his insurance check arrives I’ll route that to him. We can’t eat the $800 on it

If he cuts you a cheque and his insurer finds out, they could terminate coverage for the claim.  They may view it as “prejudicing the claim”.
